Aldis Hodge: Hard Working ‘Hacker’ of Leverage
Interview: Aldis Hodge: Hard Working ‘Hacker’ of Leverage
by R.J. Carter
Published: August 22, 2011

—>When Aldis Hodge auditioned for the role of Leverage uber-hacker, Alec Hardison, it was important to him that the character portrayal was non-stereotypical, an African-American who was not just smart, but very smart and savvy. Creators John Rogers and Chris Downey were equally impressed with the (then) 21-year-old actor’s delivery, which rivals Eddie Murphy’s “48 Hours” performance.
As we count down to the summer finale for Leverage (August 28 on TNT), we borrowed a few moments of Hodge’s time to talk about his character and the forward momentum of the series.
Was there a moment when you realized that this series was really going to go somewhere?
No, I still haven’t hit that moment. I’m still surprised every time we get a season. Just recently we found out we got picked up for a fifth, and I was very surprised. I’m very confident in what we do, but I’ve been in this business a long time — I’ve been in acting since I was three — so I kind of play more to the experience [that] no matter how great you are, no matter how quality your show is, you never know the outcome. It can go any way. You can’t really be too sure. I mean, there are so many great projects out there that never see the light of day that get canned after two seasons, or one season, just because you really can’t factor in all the variables of audience perception and what networks are thinking — and the higher up it goes, the more political it gets.
So there’s too many factors. I’m still not at that comfortable place where I’m like, “Oh yeah, I’m on a hit show!” I’m confident — but I’m not there yet. I’m still very much surprised and appreciative every time it happens.

Best Summer Bromances

Ah, the bromance. The deep – nonsexual! – abiding love/friendship between dudes. It’s become one of TV’s greatest, most enduring and probably realistic tropes. Nowadays, bromances are everywhere, whether they’re the basis of whole series (“Entourage”), reluctant (“Hawaii Five-O,” “The Vampire Diaries”) or simply the by-product of a good working relationship (“White Collar,” “House”). Occasionally, bromance even occurs between actual brothers (“Supernatural”).
Whatever the case, the end result is usually an awesomely hilarious good time for viewers – not to mention some serious fan fiction fodder for certain people. You know who you are.
That being said, here are our picks for Most Amusing Summer TV Bromances. Feel free to suggest your own favorites.
<snip>

Eliot Spencer and Alec Hardison in “LEVERAGE”: The hitter (Eliot) and the hacker (Hardison) are a true odd couple – which is precisely what makes their bromance so entertaining. They never seem to know what the other is talking about, they have zip patience and they delight in putting each other in awkward situations. But, whenever they’re on assignment together, they get the job done, no matter how silly that job might be. Whenever they’re separated, which often means “doing something dangerous” – as in last week’s episode where Hardison gets buried alive – they’re never more relieved to see each other when it’s over. Don’t believe the bromance? Check out this Tumblr blog devoted to it, complete with animated GIFs.

New Gallery Re-Design
To go along with the slick new page theme, I decided our fun and ‘funky’ cool gallery design needed to change too. So I went to my friends Sai and Koryou for help.
Seriously.
Artwork was done by the lovely Sai using an amazing photo by Micaela Bensko and another one by Mike Quain (with their permission) Then I asked the wonderful Koryou at Reality’s End to design & code a layout that was cleaner, sleeker, and more organized looking.
Thanks soo much, you wonderful ladies!
Hope you enjoy it! I’ve been working hard to get the gallery up-to-date with all of Aldis’ previous TV shows and movies and am only about 6 things short of completion on screen caps for years prior to 1995-2006! All things from 2006 to current have been added (except screen caps from the last two episodes of Leverage) though so feel free to poke around!

If you’ve seen the movie Boiler Room, you’ve got a fair idea of tonight’s second Leverage. Minus Vin Diesel. However, there is chocolate, and one heck of a final twist, so it’s all good.

The bad guy is Greg Sherman (The Shield star David Rees Snell), who gives bombastic speeches about being “on top of the food chain” because he’s that corny. Unfortunately, Hardison’s cover gets blown quickly - it’s really not a good week to be Alec Hardison! – and he’s forced to spin a tale about a faux play with Sophie playing a mark known as “the chocolate whisperer.” Now that would be a TV show I’d watch.

The first of two all-new Leverage installments tonight looks, at first glance, to be a take-off on the recent Ryan Reynolds flick Buried. How did Hardison end up trapped in a coffin in a cemetery? That’s one heck of an open.

It has something to do with a funeral home run by Darlene Wickett (Anne-Marie Johnson, last seen on Fairly Legal), who likes to swipe money at the most inappropriate time and hide it in her spiffy wall safe. The team’s attempt to search the funeral home takes a turn when they realize Darlene is also stealing the identities of the deceased. Nate decides to give Darlene a not-so-helping hand, but her greed puts everyone on the wrong side of some nasty drug runners who kidnap Hardison as their own kind of leverage.

TNT renews ‘Leverage’ for a fifth season

Get ready for more Leverage. TNT has ordered a fifth season of the Timothy Hutton starrer that’s currently averaging 4.8 million viewers, up 10% over season three.
The new season will bow next summer.
The series centers on a gang of grifters, hackers and thieves who are out to settle scores against the rich and powerful. After the show’s Aug. 28 summer finale, Leverage will return to wrap up its fourth season with new episodes in November and December.
Leverage first premiered on TNT in 2008. Besides Hutton, who plays an insurance-investigator-turned-thief, Leverage also stars Gina Bellman, Christian Kane, Beth Riesgraf and Aldis Hodge.
