Leverage: How Will Nate and Sophie’s Hookup Affect the Team?

Leverage executive producer Dean Devlin says Season 4 is all about consequences, and few events are likely to have more fallout than the hookup between Nate and Sophie in the Season 3 finale.
Devlin says the writers considered the “Moonlighting Curse” before agreeing to pair up Nate (Timothy Hutton) and Sophie (Gina Bellman). “It was a big, well-talked-out decision and we were very nervous about the idea,” Devlin tells TVGuide.com. “Every season, we’ve tried to end the season as though it’s our last. So we thought if last season was our last, we wanted them to be together. But we also threw in a big “Whoops!” at the end when they realize they’re in bed together.”
And that “whoops” will drive the early part of Season 4, as Nate and Sophie try to keep the secret from the rest of the team. In the season premiere (Sunday, 9/8c, TNT), Nate goes to great lengths to avoid even talking about it with Sophie. “They certainly want to keep it away from the work … but it begins to affect the work in an adverse way,” Hutton says. “There are eventually some moments of crossover where they have to get a hold of whatever this is and define it. But neither of them want to define it — they think they can get away with it.”
But don’t count on that. “The other guys are tremendously sharp, so you’ll see as the season goes on that we think we got away with a lot more than they actually did,” Hutton says.
Meanwhile, a pair of the snoopy team members — Hardison (Aldis Hodge) and Parker (Beth Riesgraf) — have their own set of unresolved feelings to deal with this season.

Interview with Aldis Hodge from Leverage
Aldis Hodge, who plays Hardison on TNT’s Leverage, recently spoke to the press about the upcoming season, how he got started in the acting business, and about the possibility of playing baseball legend Jackie Robinson in a movie based on the man’s life. He was as sweet and as personable on the call as his character is in the show, and it was a lot of fun speaking with him. It’s always nice when a celebrity repeats your name at some point when answering your questions. It shows they are truly listening and not just… phoning it in, so to speak.

Conference Call with Leverage’s Aldis Hodge

Ready to get your con on? Well, Sunday, it’s time. That’s right, Leverage is back with a brand-new season — and I’m sure you all want to know what’s going to happen with Nate and Sophie after that last moment last season.
But what about the rest of the gang? I was able to participate in a conference call with Aldis Hodge, who plays Hardison on the show (one of my favorite characters, of course). He’s the man with the cyber plan, and he’s right on his game in the season opener, which you can see this Sunday at 9/8c on TNT.

Paramount The third season of TNT’s heist series, “Leverage,” is out now on DVD. Timothy Hutton stars.
Heist movies live and die by their ability to find the right balance between drama and comedy. The heroes are usually pretty shabby, tragic figures, but their best cons are nothing less than masterpieces in theatrical farce.
TNT’s terrific drama “Leverage,” about a group of con artists who play Robin Hood in modern-day Boston, has the perfect mix. The show’s latest season, “Leverage: Third Season,” was released this month, just ahead of the June 26 fourth-season premiere on TNT.

LEVERAGE Press Release: The fourth season of Leverage opens in epic fashion as the team heads to the rugged mountains of Alaska to help a woman whose husband has disappeared, possibly as a victim of foul play. More than any previous job, this one will push the Leverage team to the edge of endurance in one of the world’s harshest terrains, where a single wrong step could send them plunging into an almost certain death. The Leverage crew is led by former insurance investigator turned thief, Nate Ford (Timothy Hutton). His cohorts include Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman), a brilliant grifter; Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane), a retrieval specialist; Alec Hardison (Aldis Hodge), a gadget and technology wizard; and Parker (Beth Riesgraf), a slightly off-center thief adept at rappelling off buildings. Prior to the Alaska job, the team was laying low after finally fulfilling their obligation to a mysterious Italian agent who blackmailed Nate into hunting down a nefarious financier. The ordeal seems to have opened up a new side of Nate, who is more determined than ever to focus on bringing down bad guys. He is also reluctant to deal with the uncomfortable dynamic between him and Sophie after the two wound up in bed together. This season on Leverage, the team will face bigger challenges than ever before. They will be forced to face the moral ambiguity of what they do as Nate continues to struggle with his inner demons. Among their upcoming jobs, they will target a public relations expert (guest star Michael Gladis) who protects his clients by destroying the lives of anyone who gets in their way; a millionaire who pays to have himself moved up on a heart-transplant waiting list; a woman who profits from people’s grief through a funeral scam; a big corporation out to bury potato farmers; and a group trying to kill a World War II veteran (guest star Danny Glover) who allegedly has a very rare Van Gogh painting. In addition, the team will once again face their nemesis, insurance-investigator-turned-InterPOL-agent Jim Sterling (guest star Mark Sheppard). They will also discover that someone has been spying on their activities, although the nature of the culprit’s agenda is a mystery.
I spoke with ALDIS HODGE about LEVERAGE, which celebrates its fourth Season Premiere on Sunday, June 26th on TNT. Aldis plays my favorite character and hacker, Alec Hardison and I happen to agree with him that it is the “Age of the Geek”. It is always a pleasure speaking with Aldis. He is a gifted actor and an incredible person. A few of my favorite shows and films that he has starred in are: “Supernatural”, “The Chicago Code”, “Becker”, “Die Hard: With a Vengeance”, “Cold Case”, and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”.
